Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya has reignited criticism against the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) for its continued refusal to release the fare fixation committee report. In a tweet posted on June 22, Surya questioned the secrecy behind the report and demanded transparency in fare decisions affecting lakhs of commuters.

Surya drew comparisons with the Moscow Metro, citing its affordability, dense network, and high operational efficiency. He noted that Moscow’s metro operates at an 80-second frequency and is an example of effective urban transport, both in cost and design. Sharing a video link about Moscow’s metro, Surya urged Bengaluru Metro to learn from international models.
Bengaluru Metro should learn the best from around the world.

The MP criticized BMRCL’s delay in publishing the fare report, stating: “Why are you not making it public? What is it that you want to hide?” He questioned the logic of withholding the report, arguing that it certainly doesn’t involve matters of national security. According to him, citizens have the right to understand how the current fare structure was decided and what justifies the steep pricing.
Surya also reminded the BMRCL Managing Director that he had already written multiple times requesting the report’s release. Despite continuous appeals from both public representatives and RTI activists, the report remains undisclosed.
He emphasized that public transport must be affordable and efficient, especially in a city like Bengaluru where metro travel is a daily necessity for many.
