The police have arrested three individuals pertaining to the fake voter ID card scam in the Hebbal Vidhana Soudha constituency. The arrested individuals have been identified as close aides of the Cabinet Minister for Urban Development & Town Planning Byrathi Suresh who is also the Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Hebbal constituency.

Bharat, Mounesh and Raghavendra are the persons arrested by the police with regard to this case. The three were earlier let off after a round of questioning and this had caused controversy. On 26th October, however, they were taken into police custody. Apart from voter ID cards, the trio were also involved in the preparation of fake Aadhar cards.

Their operations were carried out under the roof of a computer store. The fake ID cards were being sold to North Indians in exchange for money. 53 fake voter ID cards were confiscated from the arrested individuals. These were sent to the Election Commission of India.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is seeking the disqualification of Byrathi Suresh over this issue. We request that a case of criminal breach of trust against the MLA and his associates be booked immediately. Since this is an issue of national sovereignty and security, the case must be handed over to the NIA or CBI to ensure that the offenders do not go scot free,” the party said in their complaint to the Election Commission of India.
