After a prolonged spell of cold and dry weather, Bengaluru is set to witness its first rainfall of the year on January 13 and 14, as forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Light showers are expected due to a cyclonic circulation forming over the southeast Bay of Bengal. Additionally, isolated parts of the city may experience shallow to moderate mist.

Despite a recent rise in minimum temperatures, attributed to easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal, a dip in temperatures is anticipated after January 14. In recent days, Bengaluru's minimum temperatures have been higher than usual, fluctuating between 16.3°C and 17.3°C, which is above the average January minimum of 15.8°C. However, these rising temperatures are not expected to have a direct impact on the formation of fog or mist, which depend on cooler surface temperatures, reduced wind speeds, and clear skies.
The city’s weather is expected to return to cooler conditions post-rain, with temperatures likely to drop again after the rainfall. As Bengaluru braces for its first rain, the weather shift is a welcome relief after the extended dry spell.
