In a significant move to alleviate traffic congestion in Bengaluru, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar announced plans to construct 150 kilometers of flyovers and signal-free corridors across the city. This development aims to address the chronic traffic issues that have long plagued Bengaluru's residents.
Speaking at the 515th birth anniversary celebrations of Bengaluru's founder, Kempe Gowda, on June 27, Shivakumar, who also holds the Bengaluru City Development portfolio, emphasized the government's commitment to improving the city's infrastructure. He revealed that a comprehensive plan is in place to transform the Peripheral Ring Road (PRR) project into a thriving business corridor.

Despite numerous tender calls—up to eight times—there have been no bidders for the PRR project. Shivakumar disclosed that a decision has been made to re-envision the PRR as a business corridor through the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA). This new approach is expected to attract more interest and investment, thereby revitalizing the project.
The proposal for the PRR business corridor is set to be presented to the State Cabinet for approval in the near future. This ambitious infrastructure initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance Bengaluru's urban landscape and economic vitality, ensuring smoother commutes and better connectivity for its inhabitants.
