Bengaluru is set to launch an AI-powered "digital twin" by March, a virtual model of the city designed to optimize traffic management and enhance communication with citizens. The initiative, backed by the Bengaluru Traffic Police, will integrate real-time data from various sources, including the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS), Safe City Project, and Vehicle Actuated Control (VAC) signals, to create an accurate digital simulation of the city's traffic conditions.

The digital twin will offer real-time insights into traffic flow, enabling authorities to better monitor congestion, predict traffic patterns, and make informed decisions for infrastructure planning and road safety. In the future, data from Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC), and app-based aggregators will also be incorporated into the model to provide a comprehensive view of transportation dynamics.
This AI-driven model is designed to mimic the real-world traffic network, including vehicles, signals, and infrastructure, and will allow authorities to simulate and predict traffic scenarios. The digital twin aims to not only optimize traffic flow but also reduce congestion, enhance safety, and streamline urban planning decisions, making Bengaluru’s streets more efficient and responsive to real-time needs.
