  • Parents were critically ill; police to file court report soon

In a startling twist to a case that gripped Bengaluru in October 2024, forensic investigations have revealed that the tragic death of a 5-year-old child in Bhuvaneshwarinagar, KP Agrahara, was not caused by a cake, as initially believed, but rather from consuming spoiled food stored in the family’s refrigerator.

The incident occurred on October 7, 2024, when the young child passed away due to suspected food poisoning, and both parents were hospitalized in critical condition at KIMS Hospital. Initially, rumors had spread that the cause of illness was an online-ordered cake, sparking panic about food delivery safety across the city.

However, after eight months of intensive investigation by the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and the Department of Food Safety and Quality, it has been confirmed that the actual cause was spoiled vangi bath stored in the refrigerator. The food had been reheated and consumed by the family before they fell severely ill.

Authorities revealed that samples collected from the refrigerator contained high levels of bacterial contamination, leading to the child’s death and critical health issues for the parents. This has prompted renewed warnings from health officials about the dangers of consuming improperly stored leftovers, especially in households with young children.

KP Agrahara police are preparing to submit the final report to the court, closing the investigation that took several turns over the past few months.
