Children do not get a free pass when it comes to wearing seat belts
Seat belt regulation applies to people of all ages travelling in car
A staggering 6,15,572 cases registered for seat belt violations
Children do not get a free pass when it comes to wearing seat belts, emphasized Bengaluru police in response to an incident where a local was fined for his six-year-old daughter not fastening seat belt while travelling in car.
Despite the father’s valid query about his own adherence to the rule, authorities clarified that the seat belt regulation applies to people of all ages travelling in car.
This enforcement stems from the Indian Motor Vehicles Act, which stipulates the compulsory use of seat belts for everyone within a moving vehicle, irrespective of age or stature. Violators of this mandate face a penalty of Rs 500.
Considering the mounting curiosity among citizens, the police reiterated that the law doesn’t differentiate between adults and children in this regard.
The latest statistics underscore the seriousness of this issue, with a staggering 6,15,572 cases registered from January 1 to September 30 this year for non-compliance with seat belt protocols.
Underlining the significance of safety, the Central government has mandated the use of seat belts for all occupants in cars, SUVs, or MUVs.
This unyielding commitment to passenger safety reflects the imperative need to uphold strict adherence to traffic regulations, fostering a culture of responsible driving and safeguarding lives on the road.
