As Road Safety Month came to a close, Bengaluru traffic police intensified their crackdown on drunk and reckless driving, booking 800 motorists in just seven days. The special enforcement drive, conducted from January 27 to February 2, led to fines amounting to ₹80 lakh, averaging ₹11 lakh per day.

All 50 traffic police stations participated in the campaign, checking over 62,300 vehicles across the city. The initiative aimed to curb rising road accidents linked to intoxicated and reckless driving. Besides imposing fines, the police are now adopting stricter measures, including licence cancellations for repeat offenders.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Traffic) Shiva Prakash Devaraju reportedly emphasized that violations such as wheeling and drunk driving would lead to licence revocation. While fines were previously imposed, many offenders ignored them, necessitating tougher action to enhance road safety.
Speeding was another major focus of the operation, with 228 cases recorded and ₹2.3 lakh collected in fines. The comprehensive approach underscores the authorities' commitment to reducing road fatalities caused by both alcohol consumption and overspeeding.
The drive didn’t stop after February 2. On February 3, traffic police in the West Division continued their vigilance, booking 1,235 motorists for offences like triple riding, wrong parking, one-way violations, and mobile phone use while driving, collecting ₹6.61 lakh in fines. Officials confirmed that similar enforcement efforts will persist in the coming weeks.
