In a sweeping operation aimed at ensuring the safety of schoolchildren, Bengaluru Traffic Police conducted a special drive against school bus drivers who were found driving under the influence of alcohol. The operation took place between 7:00 am and 9:30 am, covering various parts of the city.

During the operation, police checked a total of 3,016 school vehicles. The rigorous inspection led to the booking of 23 drivers under Section 185 of the Indian Motor Vehicles (IMV) Act for driving while intoxicated. These drivers now face legal action, and their cases have been forwarded to the respective Regional Transport Office (RTO) for further action, including the suspension of their driving licenses.

Additionally, the operation uncovered 11 school buses that lacked the mandatory fitness certificate, which ensures the vehicle’s roadworthiness. These non-compliant vehicles have been seized and placed under the custody of the concerned RTO until they meet the required safety standards.

The traffic police emphasized the importance of such operations in maintaining the safety and security of schoolchildren. They urged all school authorities and bus operators to adhere strictly to safety regulations and ensure their drivers and vehicles meet all legal requirements.
