The Deputy Commissioner of Police for Traffic for the Bengaluru South division Shivaprakash Devraj has provided a significant update. An initiative of the Bengaluru Traffic Police has been underway for the last 3 days. Vehicles that have accumulated fines exceeding Rs 50,000 are being seized. 84 bikes and 1 car have been identified in this regard. A Bajaj Citi 100 bike has a pending fine that exceeds Rs 1.5 lakh. More than 2000 violations have been observed from these vehicles alone. The cumulative fine for all these cases exceeds Rs 1 crore. The offences include riding without a helmet, parking the vehicles in ‘No Parking’ zones and repeated violation of rules.
Shivaprakash clarified that even traffic police officials are not present on the spot to monitor vehicles, the offences are noted through cameras installed for this purpose. “Absence of traffic police officials does not give anyone the freedom to break rules. Lapse in payment of fines will result in a summon from a court. The payment can also be made online.,” Shivaprakash said.
