Steady Rise in Infections
The recent uptick marks a significant spike after weeks of relatively low numbers. In addition to Bengaluru, several other districts have reported rising cases. One COVID-related death was recorded, taking the state’s death toll to three during the current surge. Meanwhile, 27 patients recovered over the past day. The state's current positivity rate stands at a concerning 24.7%.
Preparedness Measures Underway
Haveri District Hospital, which had a high mortality rate during the second wave, has activated a 16-bed special COVID isolation ward. Medical staff have been deployed in two shifts to ensure round-the-clock care. “Swab samples are being collected and sent to KIMS, Hubballi for testing. Although no positive cases have been reported from Haveri so far, we are fully prepared with oxygen and medicines,” officials reportedly confirmed.
Centre Issues Fresh Guidelines
In response to the nationwide rise in infections, the Union Health Ministry has mandated COVID testing for individuals exhibiting Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) symptoms. The directive states that swabs must be sent to labs on the same day of collection.
Parental Concerns Grow
With schools reopening post-summer break, parents are increasingly anxious about their children’s safety. The government has assured that precautionary measures are being ramped up across districts to contain the spread.
As Karnataka battles a new COVID wave, authorities urge residents to stay vigilant and follow safety protocols.
