  • Ernakulam Intercity Express (12677), Kannur Express (16511) to origin from SMVT
  • Relocation comes amid ongoing construction work on pit lines at KSR station yard
  • This change in train origin is expected to remain in place until January 16 next year

Starting August 16, two prominent Kerala-bound express trains from Bengaluru will operate from Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal (SMVT) instead of KSR Bengaluru City Railway Station (SBC).

The affected services include the Ernakulam Intercity Express (12677), scheduled to depart at 6:10 AM, and the Kannur Express (16511), which leaves at 8:00 PM. Their return services — Ernakulam Intercity Express (12678) and Kannur Express (16512) — will also terminate at SMVT from August 15 onward.

The relocation comes amid ongoing construction work on pit lines at the KSR station yard. This arrangement is expected to remain in place until January 16 next year. Updated schedules reflecting the terminal change are already available on the Indian Railways reservation portal.

In terms of route adjustments, the Ernakulam Intercity Express will bypass both Cantonment and KSR stations during its return, arriving at SMVT via Carmelaram and Baiyappanahalli by 9:00 PM. This reroute could cause inconvenience for passengers heading to central Bengaluru late in the evening.

The Kannur Express will take an alternative path via Kunigal, Chikkabanavara, Yeshwantpur Junction, Hebbal, and Banaswadi before reaching SMVT. The return trip will follow the same route.

The shift in departure and arrival points is likely to impact numerous passengers, especially those accustomed to using the centrally located KSR Bengaluru station.
