Bengaluru: Tyre godown catches on to fire; nearby houses evacuated

    5 fire vehicles are currently involved in dousing the fire

    Short circuit is suspected as being the cause

    Nobody was on the premises when the fire broke out

A tyre godown caught on fire in the early hours of 7th April. The godown is located in the Chamrajpet region of the Bengaluru city. Apart from tyres, the godown also consisted of plywood items and pipes. The smoke from the fire has affected the entire region. 5 fire vehicles are currently involved in dousing the fire in the godown. More than 30 officials from the Fire Department are partaking in these efforts. They are being assisted by officials of the Police Department. 

An eyewitness to the incident stated that he heard a sound similar to bursting of firecrackers while he was asleep. Once the eyewitness woke up and stepped outside due to the disturbance, he observed that fire had engulfed the godown. Later an announcement in this regard was made by the police. People in houses nearby the godown were asked to come outside. They were asked to switch off their cylinders before stepping out. People from 18 to 20 households followed the instructions.

 It is estimated that the fire broke out at 4:30 AM. Short circuit is suspected as being the reason for the fire to break out. Nobody was on the premises when the fire broke out.
