In a significant move towards student welfare, Bengaluru University has announced that all students studying at its Jnana Bharathi campus will now be covered under a life and accident insurance policy. This comes as a positive response to a long-standing demand from students, especially those from economically weaker and middle-class backgrounds.

Over the years, several accidents and health-related emergencies involving students had been reported on campus. Concerned over the lack of support in such instances, students had submitted multiple requests urging the university administration to introduce a formal insurance policy. With the latest decision, the university has taken a concrete step toward ensuring both financial security and emergency protection for its student community.
As per the new policy, insurance coverage will be made mandatory for all students, numbering over 4,000 currently enrolled. The insurance premium will be included as part of the annual academic fee, ensuring hassle-free implementation.
Students have also requested that the university bear part of the premium cost, rather than passing the entire burden on to the students. While the administration has not yet clarified its stand on this aspect, sources suggest that the request is under active consideration.
