HANSA performs the function of fulfilling this gap in training aircrafts
SARAS is completely digital with pressurised cabins which can have a ceiling of 25,000 feet
We also have a mandate from the government to initiate electric aircrafts: CM Anand
CM Anand, Program Director for Civil Aviation in CSIR-NAL talked about the roadmap that lies ahead for the organisation in a road show to prompt WINGS INDIA 2024 in the Lalit Ashok hotel. “A 14-19 seater aircraft is currently in the design phase. Preliminary activities towards the 90-seater aircraft are underway. We also have a mandate from the government to initiate electric aircrafts although we are starting with a smaller aircraft per say. Our laboratories are well equipped to deal with civil-aircraft activities. We are trying to get industries involved in the production,” he stated.

He talked about the scope of HANSA, a prime project in the domain of civil aviation. “We have initiated civil aircrafts activity starting from 2-seaters called HANSA which has now obtained the relevant certifications. India is in need of a lot of training aircrafts. There is a huge shortage of the same. HANSA performs the function of fulfilling this gap even though it meets the requirements of operations. It is a first of its kind with fully digital technology. We have received 100+ letters of interest for this aircraft,’ he said.
He also talked about SARAS, an aircraft which is in the development phase. “SARAS is a 14-seater transport aircraft. It is unique in being completely digital with pressurised cabins which can have a ceiling of 25,000 feet. This is useful for flying in regions of north-east and high end hot airfields. Currently, no other aircraft of this category is capable of flying in places like Leh. It is currently in the design phase. The ICAT systems have submitted a letter of interest in SARAS for the implementation of medical systems on air,” he mentioned.
