WRI (World Resource Institute) India and B-PAC ( Bangalore Political Action Committee) have jointly launched an initiative to promote public transport. They have the support of other corporate enterprises and citizen interest organisations as well. The connectivity given to the whitefield and electronic city via the metro has given them a fresh lease of hope, as the IT worker dense regions were most susceptible to traffic congestion.
They have released a public survey to understand the reasons bengaluru residents do not opt for public transport and what measures would change their attitude towards it. The survey takes various factors into consideration such as distance from workplace to house, comfort of ride, relative cost effective nature of both options, viability of last mile connectivity from metro stations for the commuters and the safety factor in their ride. They have also opened up the platform for suggestions that are implementable and would promote the usage of public transport.
Recently residents of Whitefield came together to meet the Transport minister a submit a petition to increase bus connectivity in Mahadevpura. They provided various recommendations such as more 500 EB buses, more Chakra buses, more metro feeders, more well equipped stops and signages, commissioning of more mini buses in the region and discussed potential new routes for the buses to take.
