  • Pakistan has played 2 ODI games in the stadium
  • Australia has played 10 ODI matches in the stadium
  • Six of the players in Australia's last win are part of the present squad

Australia and Pakistan are set to clash in the Chinnaswamy Stadium on October 20th. This would be a crucial match in the context of the World Cup with the spot for the third and fourth position in the points table becoming closer by the day.

Pakistan has played 2 ODI games in the stadium so far having lost one and won once. They lost the quarter final to India in the 1996 World Cup. It was in this match that Venkatesh Prasad got Aamir Sohail bowled out after being hit for 4 in the previous delivery. This became an iconic sequence in the context of India-Pakistan rivalry. Local lads Venkatesh Prasad, Javagal Srinath and Anil Kumble had picked up 7 of the 9 wickets in the game. In 1999 however Pakistan registered a comprehensive victory on the back of a 5-wicket haul by Azhar Mahmood and 91 by Inzamam-ul-Haq. Currently they are missing out on a specialist fast bowling all rounder.

Australia has played 10 ODI matches in the stadium including on 2 occasions in the 2011 world cup. They have won on 4 occasions and only twice against test playing nations. Their most recent win came in 2017 due to the efforts of David Warner with the bat. 6 of the players in that match are part of Australia’s squad for the game.

Australia also has experience in the ground by virtue of IPL which gives them a slight advantage over Pakistan.
