A lady lodged a complaint against a Rapido driver, alleging he exploited the ride fare and harassed her during the trip. What should’ve been a Rs 296 ride turned into a Rs 390 demand, with the driver reportedly admitting overcharging and behaving inappropriately.

The incident happened when the woman booked a Rapido auto, and upon reaching her destination, the driver demanded an additional ₹94. Shocked, she contacted Rapido’s helpline immediately to report the discrepancy. The driver, however, persisted with a combative attitude. In a tense back-and-forth, he attempted to paint the passenger as an outsider unfamiliar with local norms, saying things like "outsiders and non-Kannada speakers beware," implying she was easy to exploit.

Their verbal exchange quickly became heated, turning into a argument that was recorded and later went viral on social media. The woman alleges that the driver used regional identity against her, targeting non-native speakers and creating a hostile atmosphere. His conduct has raised fresh concerns about language-based discrimination and allowed overcharging practices.

Following her distressing experience, the woman filed a formal complaint at the local police station. She also made a parallel grievance through Rapido’s control room, seeking swift action. The matter highlights how even widely used ride-hailing services can fall prey to fare manipulation and unacceptable behaviour by some captains.

The woman awaits resolution through both the police and the ride-sharing platform, hoping her complaint will deter similar incidents and protect other passengers from financial exploitation and harassment.
