A 24-year-old woman named Spandana was found dead under suspicious circumstances in the Madanayakanahalli police limits on the outskirts of Bengaluru. The young woman had married Abhishek, a car driver, through a registered marriage against her parents’ wishes after meeting him on Instagram while studying at Brindavan College for her MBA.

Spandana’s family alleges that following the marriage, she was subjected to constant dowry harassment. Her father, a businessman named Chandra, had earlier intervened and paid Rs 5 lakh after she reported being pressured for money. Just a day before her death, Spandana reportedly called her father in tears, alleging mental abuse from her husband and mother-in-law, Lakshmamma.
Shortly thereafter, the family received a call informing them of her sudden death. When they arrived at the hospital, they found her deceased. The body was allegedly found hanging, but her family claims it showed injury marks, sparking suspicions of foul play. They also allege that Abhishek and his family removed the body without informing anyone and took her to the hospital.
Madanayakanahalli Police have registered an FIR against Abhishek and Lakshmamma based on a complaint from the victim’s family. A postmortem was conducted at Victoria Hospital, and Spandana’s body has been handed over to the family for final rites.
