In a tragic case underscoring the mental health crisis among new mothers, a 27-year-old woman named Radha has been arrested in Nelamangala near Bengaluru for allegedly killing her newborn by placing the baby in a vessel of boiling water. Radha had recently delivered a premature baby who, according to family members, refused to feed and cried frequently. Struggling to cope and showing signs of postpartum depression, Radha reportedly believed something was wrong with the child. Police suspect her mental condition deteriorated in the absence of emotional and financial support.

Investigations reveal that Radha's husband, who is unemployed and has a history of alcohol addiction, had stopped visiting her, adding to her isolation. On the day of the incident, Radha allegedly lit the stove, boiled water in a large cooking vessel, and placed the infant inside, leading to the child’s death from severe burns.

Police officials say Radha’s actions appear to be driven by untreated mental health issues and overwhelming stress. A case has been registered, and further investigations are underway, including a psychiatric evaluation.
