A 21-year-old woman lost her life in a tragic road accident on Thursday afternoon near the 8th Mile junction, shortly after Hesaraghatta Cross, under the Peenya traffic police limits. The victim, identified as Lakshmi from Tumakuru, was travelling with her husband and their eight-month-old baby on a two-wheeler when the incident occurred.

The family was en route to Nelamangala when they halted briefly as Lakshmi wanted to drink water. As she stood by the roadside, a speeding lorry veered off course and ran her over. Her husband, Ambarish, who was holding the child, escaped injury but fainted upon witnessing the fatal incident. He was rushed to KC General Hospital for medical attention.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the lorry driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. He attempted to flee the scene, but was intercepted by bystanders who chased the vehicle and stopped it. In a fit of anger, some individuals hurled stones at the lorry before the driver was apprehended by police.

The accused, identified as Mohammed from Haryana, was arrested on the spot. Initial assumptions pointed to the lorry hitting the family while in motion, but Ambarish later clarified that they had stopped voluntarily. Authorities confirmed that Ambarish works at a college near Nelamangala and that the family had been heading there when the tragedy struck.
