Bengaluru woman serves BBMP legal notice, seeks ₹50 lakh compensation over poor roads

Frustrated by the deteriorating road conditions in Bengaluru, a city resident has served a legal notice to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), demanding ₹50 lakh in compensation. Dr. Divya Kiran S., a resident of Richmond Town, has accused the civic body of negligence, claiming physical and mental trauma due to commuting on pothole-ridden roads.

In her notice, Dr. Divya highlights the poor condition of city roads, stating that commuting via auto-rickshaws and two-wheelers has become increasingly painful and hazardous. Despite being a tax-paying citizen, she alleges that the BBMP has failed to provide basic infrastructure and maintain roads in motorable condition.

The legal notice demands not only ₹50 lakh as compensation for the hardships faced but also ₹10,000 towards notice-related expenses. Dr. Divya argues that the BBMP's failure to uphold its civic responsibility has led to widespread distress among citizens, especially during the ongoing spell of heavy rain that has worsened road conditions.

She further asserts that the BBMP’s gross negligence amounts to a violation of public duty, causing undue stress and suffering to everyday commuters. The demand for accountability comes amid growing public outcry over the city’s crumbling infrastructure, as citizens continue to grapple with waterlogging, potholes, and traffic chaos.
