Zomato and other food delivery apps have now become an integral part of urban life. Especially for bachelors. Although the restaurants are more to blame for it, outrage against unhygienic orders among customers is only natural. Harshitha, having ordered Chicken Fried Rice from the “TAPRI BY THE CORNER”, located in 5th Block, Koramangala was shocked on finding a cockroach in her food. “I ordered chicken fried rice in zomato from the restaurant “TAPRI BY THE CORNER”. I got a cockroach in my food. Absolutely disgusted with my order! This is completely unacceptable and unhygienic. Need an immediate resolution,” she posted on the microblogging platform X (formerly known as Twitter).

Zomato promptly replied to the customer assuring support from their end. “That's really unexpected, Harshitha. We can understand how you must be feeling :( Could you please help us with your registered contact number/ Order ID via a private message so that we can look into this immediately?” Zomato Care’s X account replied.

There are important questions to be answered such as a requirement to fulfil a minimum standard of hygiene for restaurants in order to associate with such food delivery apps and the need of a mechanism in place to ensure that the hygiene standards are regularly monitored.
