Bengaluru: Woman who earlier killed 2 children commits suicide in Parappana Agrahara Prison

    Gangadevi hanged herself with her Saare in the washroom

    Post mortem examination was conducted on April 13th

    Body was later handed over to her relatives

A woman named Gangadevi stationed in the Parappana Agrahara Prison who had allegedly killed her son and daughter committed suicide by hanging herself with her Saare in the washroom of the jail. She is reported to have committed suicide on April 11th, the very day she was taken to jail for her act. The post mortem examination of her body was conducted on April 13th. Her body was later handed over to her relatives. A case has been registered in the Parappana Agrahara Police Station.

On April 9th, 9-year-old Lakshmi and 7-year-old Gautham were suffocated to death. Gangedevi later called the police to inform them tat she would be committing suicide. The police rushed to the spot of the crime and apprehended the suspect. The police uncovered the truth during interrogation. She was later shifted to the Parappana Agrahara Prison. 

Gangadevi worked as a daily wage labourer for various private companies. Her husband was a Pourakarmika worker with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on a contract basis. He was arrested in a Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) case in March. Gangadevi is believed to have taken this step as she was faced with difficulties in managing her household after the arrest of her husband.
