After several missed deadlines, the much-anticipated Namma Metro Yellow Line is expected to begin operations in June 2025. However, commuters hoping for full service may have to wait longer. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced that operations will initially be limited, with trains halting only at select major stations.

The 19.15-km Yellow Line stretches from R.V. Road to Bommasandra, covering key transit zones in southern Bengaluru. Although construction of the corridor has been completed, the launch was delayed due to the pending arrival of new driverless trains. To avoid further postponement, BMRCL plans to operate a limited number of conventional trains in the interim.
Only three trains will run initially, with one train every 30 minutes. In the first phase, just five major stations—along with the two terminal stations—will be opened to the public. The corporation is yet to officially name which stations will be included in this partial rollout.
The announcement has triggered disappointment among commuters who had been counting on the new line to ease their daily travel woes. Residents living near non-operational stations will continue to rely on alternative transport, despite the line’s physical readiness.
BMRCL officials have assured that additional stations and trains will be added in a phased manner, depending on demand and readiness.
