  • Metro Mitra introduces auto ride bookings on WhatsApp
  • Metro Mitra operates on a 'drive fund' model
  • Nominal Rs 10 surcharge on top of the ride fare will be levied

Metro Mitra, an initiative spearheaded by the autorickshaw drivers union, is set to revolutionize ride bookings with the introduction of a convenient WhatsApp-based system.

Building upon the success of their innovative QR-based app-less booking platform, Metro Mitra now offers commuters the ease of booking rides directly from their homes through WhatsApp.

Unlike traditional aggregator services that often impose hefty platform fees, Metro Mitra operates on a 'drive fund' model, ensuring a more cost-effective solution for both riders and drivers.

Booking a ride is as simple as sending a message with the keyword 'auto' to the designated WhatsApp chatbot. The chatbot promptly prompts the user to share their current location, presenting a curated list of nearby metro stations for selection. Additionally, users have the flexibility to specify any other desired location apart from metro stations. Upon confirmation, the user is swiftly connected with a nearby rider, and an OTP (One-Time Password) is generated to authenticate the booking process.

Notably, Metro Mitra's pricing strategy sets them apart from conventional aggregator services, as they only levy a nominal Rs 10 surcharge on top of the ride fare. This contrasts starkly with the exorbitant platform maintenance and surge fees imposed by other platforms. Since its inception in September 2023, Metro Mitra has successfully onboarded 500 autorickshaw drivers, marking a significant milestone in its mission to provide efficient last-mile connectivity, particularly for commuters traveling to and from metro stations.
