Families of three BESCOM employees who died while on duty receive financial support under Union Bank of India’s Super Salary Account insurance scheme.
In a significant gesture of support to bereaved families, Karnataka Energy Minister K. J. George on Thursday distributed compensation cheques of ₹1 crore each to the families of three BESCOM employees who lost their lives while on duty.
The cheques were handed over during a formal meeting held at the BESCOM corporate office, where the Minister personally interacted with the families and expressed his condolences. The compensation was provided under the insurance benefits of the Super Salary Account scheme of Union Bank of India.
The beneficiaries included V. Keerthana, wife of Uday Kumar, an Assistant Powerman from the Gauribidanur subdivision who died due to electrocution while at work. Dakshayini, wife of B. V. Manjappa, a Powerman from the Gudibande subdivision, received the cheque following her husband’s death in a road accident. Muniratnamma, wife of Amarnath, a Powerman from the Chintamani subdivision, was also presented with the compensation after her husband died in a similar road mishap.

Speaking on the occasion, Energy Minister KJ George said the safety of field staff, particularly linemen and powermen, remains the top priority of the Energy Department. He noted that necessary personal protective equipment is regularly provided to workers to minimise risks. However, acknowledging the unpredictability of such tragic incidents, he said the department stands firmly with the families in their time of need.
“These compensation cheques are a small effort to support families who have suffered an irreparable loss. The government is committed to ensuring both safety and security for all its employees,” the Minister stated.
The event was attended by Additional Chief Secretary of the Energy Department Gaurav Gupta, KPTCL Managing Director Ram Prasad Manohar, BESCOM Managing Director Dr. N. Shivashankara IAS, and other senior officials.
