Brazilian national caught at Kempegowda International Airport with 4.776 kg cocaine hidden in luggage; probe on to trace global trafficking links.
In a significant strike against international drug trafficking, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has seized 4.776 kilograms of cocaine valued at ₹23.88 crore at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru.
The operation was launched after NCB officials received precise intelligence inputs about a passenger arriving from Doha, Qatar. Acting swiftly, the officers closely monitored the suspect during routine arrival procedures and intercepted him during transit checks. The accused, identified as a Brazilian national, was immediately taken into custody at the airport.
A thorough search of the passenger’s baggage revealed a large quantity of cocaine ingeniously concealed inside pieces of cloth and packed deep within the suitcase. Officials said the method was intended to evade detection during standard screening processes. However, detailed inspection led to the recovery of the entire consignment.
Following the seizure, a formal case was registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The accused is currently under investigation, and further legal action is being pursued.
NCB officials believe the seizure is part of a larger international smuggling network. Investigators are now focusing on identifying local contacts in Bengaluru and tracing the international connections behind the high-value consignment. Efforts are also underway to uncover the operational routes, financial channels, and individuals involved in this transnational drug trafficking operation.
