New driverless train from Kolkata arrives safely at Hebbagodi depot as BMRCL moves closer to reducing Metro frequency on the RV Road-Bommasandra Yellow Line.
Bengaluru Metro’s Yellow Line operations received a significant boost with the arrival of the eighth driverless Metro train at the Hebbagodi Metro depot. The newly arrived train has been transported from Kolkata and has safely reached Bengaluru for detailed technical and safety inspections.
Officials confirmed that the train will now undergo comprehensive technical checks and safety trials at the Hebbagodi depot. Only after successfully completing all mandatory inspections and certifications will the train be cleared for commercial passenger operations on the Yellow Line.
At present, the Yellow Line, which connects RV Road to Bommasandra, is being served by seven driverless Metro trains. These trains are currently operating at an interval of approximately ten minutes, providing essential connectivity to key industrial and residential hubs along the corridor.

The arrival of the eighth train is expected to ease operational pressure and improve service efficiency. Metro authorities have indicated that once the newly arrived train is commissioned, the overall frequency of services on the Yellow Line is likely to improve further.
Under the RV Road-Bommasandra Yellow Line project, a total of 16 driverless Metro trains have been ordered. With eight trains now having reached Bengaluru, the project has reached a crucial halfway mark in terms of rolling stock availability.
Currently, Metro services on the Yellow Line operate at intervals ranging between 10 and 12 minutes. Officials expect that with the induction of more driverless trains, the waiting time for passengers will gradually come down. In the next phase, services are planned to run every 8 to 10 minutes, significantly enhancing commuter convenience.
