AI giant Anthropic to launch first India office in Bengaluru by 2026

Backed by Google and Amazon, Anthropic aims to capitalize on India’s booming AI market, with CEO Dario Amodei visiting this week to expand corporate and public partnerships.

AI company Anthropic, supported by Google and Amazon, announced plans to open its first office in India by early 2026, aiming to tap into the country’s rapidly growing AI sector. The office will be located in Bengaluru, the nation’s technology hub, and will become the company’s second Asia Pacific base after Tokyo.

India has emerged as a critical market for AI, with nearly a billion internet users, rising technology investments, a skilled workforce, and increasing investor interest. Anthropic’s AI chatbot Claude, known for its strong coding capabilities and competition with ChatGPT, has already made India its second-largest market globally. Currently, Claude is offered in free and paid versions in India, though local pricing in Indian currency has not yet been introduced.

Anthropic’s co-founder and CEO, Dario Amodei, is scheduled to visit India this week to meet with public officials and corporate partners as part of its expansion strategy. The $183 billion company recently announced plans to triple its international workforce to meet rising demand for Claude AI models outside the United States.

The move positions Anthropic alongside other major AI competitors in India, including OpenAI, which registered as a legal entity in India in 2025 and plans to open its first office in New Delhi later this year, Google’s Gemini, and AI startup Perplexity, both offering free advanced AI tools in the Indian market.

With the Bengaluru office, Anthropic aims to strengthen its presence in India, accelerate AI adoption, and enhance partnerships with local businesses and government entities.
