Even as Bengaluru South is still grappling with shock over a recent case where a young couple lost their lives allegedly due to dowry harassment, another serious case has now surfaced, raising fresh concerns over the issue. This time, the allegations are directed against the family of a well-known education institution owner in Magadi.

The survivor, identified as Preethi, has accused the family of her husband, linked to the prestigious Maruti Educational Institution in Magadi, of subjecting her to relentless dowry harassment and eventually forcing her out of the matrimonial home within a year of marriage.

According to Preethi, her parents had married her into the family believing that their daughter would be well cared for, given the family’s social standing and reputation in the education sector. However, she alleged that trouble began within a month of the wedding. She claimed that her husband’s family started demanding dowry and subjected her to daily physical and mental harassment when those demands were not met.

The woman alleged that she was not allowed to freely speak to or even approach her husband, and that she had to seek permission from her mother-in-law for even basic interactions. She further claimed that she endured the abuse silently in the hope of saving her marriage, but the situation worsened over time.

Preethi alleged that her in-laws repeatedly threatened her, saying that if she failed to bring money, their son would be married off to another woman. She stated that she was eventually driven out of the house, leaving her with no option but to seek justice.

Demanding accountability, Preethi, along with her family members, has been staging a protest in front of the Maruti Educational Institution in Magadi, urging authorities to act. She has lodged a formal complaint at the Magadi Police Station against her husband Roopesh, mother-in-law Varalakshmi, and father-in-law Gangaraju.
