BDA opens a new loop road for vehicles from the airport side towards Mekhri Circle, allowing trial traffic movement from tonight to reduce congestion at Bengaluru’s busiest junction.
Bengaluru’s most traffic-choked junction, the Hebbal Flyover, has received a major relief measure with the completion of another new loop road by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA). The civic body announced on Friday evening that the newly built loop road has been opened for trial vehicular movement starting tonight.
The latest loop road is designed specifically for vehicles travelling from the airport side towards Mekhri Circle and Bengaluru city. According to BDA, this addition will allow smoother entry into the city without forcing vehicles to climb the main flyover, which has long been a bottleneck during peak hours.

Earlier, a separate loop road was inaugurated for vehicles coming from the Nagawara side towards Mekhri Circle. That project was opened a few months ago by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. With the completion of the second loop, Hebbal Flyover now has dedicated routes for multiple traffic streams.

The BDA confirmed the completion through an official post on social media, stating that the loop road will initially operate on a trial basis. The authority said the new road will significantly help vehicles from North Bengaluru areas such as Yelahanka, Jakkur and Sahakara Nagar travel non-stop towards Mekhri Circle.
With this development, traffic from the airport side can now enter the city smoothly, while vehicles from Nagawara and KR Puram already have a separate loop to avoid congestion. Earlier, traffic jams were mainly caused by vehicles coming from the airport and Yelahanka side towards the city, while outbound traffic towards the airport faced comparatively fewer delays.
In a short span of two to three months, BDA has completed two loop roads at Hebbal Flyover to tackle one of Bengaluru’s most persistent traffic problems. Whether this intervention fully resolves the congestion will become clearer once regular traffic resumes from tomorrow.
