Ahead of property auctions by the Greater Bengaluru Authority, 14 defaulters rushed to settle long-pending dues, while re-auction plans are underway for remaining properties.
The announcement of property auctions by the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has begun yielding quick results, with several long-time tax defaulters stepping forward to clear their dues. In Bommanahalli, nearly 14 property owners rushed to make payments after the South city corporation revealed plans to auction defaulters’ properties, leading to the recovery of more than ₹27 lakh.
Officials said the fear of losing properties through public auction pushed many defaulters into immediate action. This development follows recent auctions conducted by the East and North city corporations, where seven properties were successfully sold. Encouraged by the response, all five city corporations under GBA have intensified efforts to recover pending taxes by initiating auctions as a final enforcement step.

This was the fourth auction drive conducted this month, held across multiple locations. Authorities have confirmed that similar auctions will continue in the coming days to recover outstanding property tax arrears.
According to KN Ramesh, Commissioner of the South city corporation, the civic body had identified 50 residential and commercial properties in Bommanahalli with total pending dues nearing ₹1.1 crore. Proclamation notices were served to all defaulters, informing them that their properties would be auctioned. The auction was scheduled between 11 am and 1.30 pm on Friday.
Before the bidding process began, 14 property owners cleared their arrears through challans and online payment platforms. Following this, the commissioner instructed assistant revenue officers to issue official endorsements, formally withdrawing these properties from the auction list.

However, the remaining 36 defaulters failed to settle their dues. Although the auction was formally announced and proceedings were initiated, no bidders came forward to deposit the mandatory amount or place bids, resulting in an inconclusive process.
Officials have now begun preparations to conduct a re-auction of the remaining properties in the coming days. Civic authorities believe sustained auction drives will encourage more defaulters to clear long-pending tax dues and help strengthen municipal revenue collection.
