In a world dominated by screens, the Bangalore International Centre (BIC) has launched a new initiative aimed at rekindling the joy of reading. The "Around the World in 50 Days" children’s library, named after the 50 Sundays in a calendar year, opened its doors about a month ago. Offering free access every Sunday, the library is designed to attract young readers and their families.

Interactive space for learning and engagement

The library is more than just a place to borrow books; it’s an interactive space for learning and engagement. The large, versatile area, often used for performances, serves as the setting for dynamic storytelling sessions. These sessions, catering to children aged 6-14, are designed to spark imagination and encourage empathy, with parents often invited to participate. Each session requires prior registration through the BIC website.

The focus of the sessions will be to explore the concept of empathy, highlighting how shared stories can nurture social and emotional growth in children. Learning is a two-way process, where interactions and perspectives contribute to deeper understanding and connection.

Currently housing around 900 books, the library’s collection is focused on picture books, curated by Champaca and funded by Doorbeen and the H.T. Parekh Foundation. Regular visitors have already developed a deep connection to the space, often staying long after the sessions end.
