  • Bannerghatta Road reopens after four years of metro-related closures
  • Commuters experience faster travel and reduced congestion
  • BMRCL to finish footpath, bus shelter, and civic restoration work soon

The reopening of Bannerghatta Road’s main carriageway from Dairy Circle to Hosur Road eases traffic after years of metro construction delays.

After nearly four years of traffic chaos, dust, and long detours, Bengaluru’s Bannerghatta Road has finally reopened, marking a major relief for thousands of commuters traveling through south Bengaluru.

The key stretch between Dairy Circle Junction and the Indian Christian Cemetery near Hosur Road had been closed in one direction since 2021 for underground metro construction under the Namma Metro Pink Line. The closure had caused severe congestion and affected daily traffic, particularly for those heading towards the city’s central areas.

What Has Changed

With the reopening of the main carriageway, two-way traffic has resumed, significantly reducing travel time for vehicles moving between Dairy Circle, Lakkasandra, and Adugodi. Commuters have reported smoother movement and less congestion during peak hours.

However, residents and small business owners along the stretch, who endured years of disruption, are now demanding quick restoration of civic infrastructure, including damaged footpaths, bus shelters, and drainage lines.

Although the road is open for use, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) still needs to complete several finishing works. These include:

•    Rebuilding demolished bus shelters.
•    Restoring broken pavements and footpaths.
•    Carrying out final road surfacing and beautification work.

Local traders have also urged the authorities to improve pedestrian safety and ensure smooth movement before the metro line becomes operational.
The Namma Metro Pink Line, covering 21 km from Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara, is progressing on schedule. The elevated section of the line is expected to open by May 2026, offering faster and more sustainable travel for thousands of daily passengers.

Until then, the reopening of Bannerghatta Road brings temporary relief to motorists and residents who have long waited for smoother connectivity through this vital south Bengaluru corridor.
