In a fresh boost to the “Make in India” drive for aerospace manufacturing, Airbus Helicopters has awarded Mahindra Aerostructures Pvt Ltd (MASPL) a new contract to produce the main fuselage of its H125 helicopter. The Bengaluru-based facility will begin industrialisation immediately, with the first delivery expected in 2027.

This contract comes on the heels of an earlier agreement in April 2025 that assigned MASPL the manufacturing of the H130 helicopter’s fuselage. By securing both work packages, MASPL has become a critical partner for Airbus’s expanding helicopter production plans in India.

Airbus's H125 fuselage project

The H125 fuselage project further integrates India into Airbus Helicopters’ global supply chain, where the company already sources $1.4 billion worth of components and services annually. The development also complements Airbus’s broader strategy in India, which includes establishing two final assembly lines—one for the H125 helicopter and another for the C295 military aircraft, in collaboration with Tata Advanced Systems Limited.

These initiatives aim to build a complete aerospace ecosystem in the country, spanning design, manufacturing, assembly, maintenance, and training. Airbus’s decision reinforces India’s position as an emerging hub for rotorcraft and fixed-wing aircraft production.

The H125, regarded as the world’s leading single-engine helicopter, will now have a stronger India footprint, strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities while aligning with national priorities to advance high-value aerospace engineering and industrial growth.
