Kempegowda International Airport begins lane segregation and timed pick-up rules at Terminal 2 from Dec 11, with Terminal 1 set to follow on Dec 13.
Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) has rolled out a new lane-segregation and pick-up management system aimed at easing congestion at the arrival area. The measures, which include strict time limits and overstay charges, came into effect at Terminal 2 on December 11 and will be introduced at Terminal 1 from December 13.
The changes were initially scheduled for December 8 but were postponed following large-scale disruptions to IndiGo services. With flight operations stabilising, Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) confirmed that the new system is now fully ready for implementation.

According to the updated rules, every vehicle entering the arrival pick-up lane will be allowed eight minutes of free access. Once that limit is crossed, charges begin:
• ₹150 for staying between 8-13 minutes
• ₹300 for 13-18 minutes
Any vehicle exceeding 18 minutes will be towed to the nearest police station, with both fines and towing charges applicable. BIAL said these measures are essential to improve movement, ensure safety and reduce crowding at the kerbside, where nearly 100,000 vehicles pass daily.

Bengaluru Airport, the third-busiest in the country with around 1.3 lakh passengers every day, has been facing rising pressure on its road network, especially during peak arrivals. Officials say the new system will help maintain discipline and create a more organised pick-up environment for passengers and drivers.
Meanwhile, IndiGo’s ongoing operational disruptions entered the tenth day on December 11. At KIA alone, 60 flights were cancelled , 32 arrivals and 28 departures, adding to concerns for travellers already adjusting to the new pick-up procedures.
