Bengaluru Airport marks record mango export growth by shipping 921 metric tonnes—around 31.5 lakh mangoes

Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) has recorded its best-ever mango export season, shipping 921 metric tonnes—around 31.5 lakh mangoes—to destinations worldwide. This represents a 12% jump from last year’s figures, highlighting the airport’s growing role in agricultural exports.

The premium fruits, sourced from Karnataka and neighbouring states, were transported by 24 airlines to 51 overseas destinations, with 19 of these being new markets. This expansion boosted BLR’s global reach by 21%, with major consignments heading to cities such as Dulles, Dallas–Fort Worth, San Francisco, Chicago, and Seattle.

Reportedly according to Satyaki Raghunath, Chief Operating Officer of Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), the success was the result of seamless coordination between government agencies, airline operators, cargo handlers, trade promotion bodies, and farming communities.

India’s top hub for perishable cargo

BLR Airport has now retained its position as India’s top hub for perishable cargo for four years in a row. Its advanced cold-chain facilities, efficient handling systems, and strategic airline network have played a critical role in ensuring that perishable goods like mangoes reach international markets in prime condition.

The achievement not only cements Bengaluru’s status as a leading export gateway but also opens fresh commercial opportunities for Indian mango growers. By connecting local farms to global buyers, BLR continues to enhance the visibility of Indian produce on the international stage, giving a significant boost to both agribusiness and the rural economy.
