Bengaluru caretaker arrested for killing pet dog inside apartment lift

A Bengaluru caretaker, Pushpalatha, has been arrested for killing a four-year-old Chihuahua named Goofy by smashing it on a lift floor. CCTV footage exposed her act after she falsely claimed the dog collapsed on its own.

A 29-year-old caretaker brutally killed a four-year-old Chihuahua named Goofy inside a Bengaluru apartment lift after getting angry over the dog’s bark.

In a shocking case of animal cruelty, a 29-year-old caretaker in Bengaluru has been arrested for killing a pet dog inside an apartment lift. The accused, identified as Pushpalatha, reportedly lost her temper after a four-year-old Chihuahua named Goofy barked at her.

The horrifying incident occurred on October 31 inside a residential complex where the caretaker was employed to look after two Mexican-breed dogs owned by 23-year-old MBA student Rashika K R. Pushpalatha, who had been working at the apartment for over a month, earned ₹22,000 per month along with accommodation and meals.

According to police, CCTV footage from the lift revealed the disturbing sequence of events. The video shows Pushpalatha pulling the small dog violently, lifting it by its belt, and smashing it against the floor in a fit of rage. The impact killed the dog instantly.

Initially, Pushpalatha tried to mislead her employer by claiming that Goofy had collapsed and died after the lift door opened. However, the truth came out after Rashika checked the CCTV footage and reported the incident to police.

During questioning, Pushpalatha confessed to killing the dog, saying she became angry when it refused to enter the lift and barked continuously. Police have also booked her for allegedly stealing a gold chain and two rings belonging to Rashika.

The police have registered a case under animal cruelty and theft charges. The dog’s body is set to be exhumed for postmortem to confirm the cause of death.
