Bengaluru dermatologist arrested for alleged sexual harassment of patient

A Bengaluru woman has accused dermatologist Dr. Praveen Rodriguez, 56, of sexually harassing her during a follow-up consultation. Police arrested him following a complaint and he is now in judicial custody. Family protest led to swift action.

A 56-year-old dermatologist has been taken into judicial custody after a 21-year-old woman accused him of sexual harassment during a clinic visit in Ashok Nagar.

Ashok Nagar police have arrested 56-year-old dermatologist Dr. Praveen Rodriguez, after a 21-year-old woman accused him of sexual harassment during a follow-up medical consultation at his private clinic. The complainant alleged that the incident occurred on Saturday evening when her father could not accompany her.

According to the police, the woman said Dr. Rodriguez inappropriately touched her for nearly 30 minutes, hugged and kissed her multiple times, and made indecent advances despite her objections. She alleged he even forced her to undress under the guise of examining a skin infection and suggested booking a hotel room to spend time privately.

The woman informed her family immediately, who along with local residents, staged a protest outside the clinic demanding prompt action. Police arrived at the scene and detained Dr. Rodriguez. The doctor, however, denied the allegations, claiming that his actions were misunderstood.

A case has been registered under sections 75 (sexual harassment) and insult to the modesty of a woman of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Following the investigation, Dr. Praveen Rodriguez has been remanded in judicial custody. Authorities have urged anyone with additional information about the incident to come forward.
