East, Central and North Corporations roll out a structured feeding plan with clear guidelines to ensure public safety, hygiene, and peaceful coexistence with community animals.
In a major step towards organised and safe feeding of community animals, the Bengaluru East City Corporation has identified 150 designated feeding spots for stray dogs, while the Central City Corporation has allocated 90 locations. This initiative follows closely after the Bengaluru North City Corporation earmarked 70 feeding points, taking the total to 310 official feeding spots across the city.
To ensure proper implementation, signboards have been installed at all identified locations, clearly mentioning feeding guidelines. The move aims to regulate feeding practices, reduce conflicts, and promote harmonious coexistence between humans and animals.
D.S. Ramesh, Commissioner of the East City Corporation, appealed to residents and animal feeders to strictly feed stray dogs only at these designated locations. He stressed the need for disciplined and systematic feeding while prioritising public safety. He stated that these feeding zones were finalised after consultations with local feeders, animal welfare activists, veterinary officers, and officials from the Animal Husbandry Department, in line with recent Supreme Court guidelines.

According to officials, all feeding spots have been carefully chosen away from sensitive and crowded locations. These areas are located far from main roads, hospitals, schools, colleges, bus stands, metro stations, and other high-footfall public spaces to avoid inconvenience, traffic disruptions, and safety risks.
Mr. Ramesh highlighted that structured feeding plays a crucial role in maintaining calm behaviour among street dogs. Regular access to food reduces hunger-driven aggression and lowers the risk of dog bites. It also supports smoother implementation of animal birth control (ABC) sterilisation programmes and large-scale vaccination drives, which are essential for controlling the stray dog population and preventing the spread of diseases.
The guidelines displayed on the signboards clearly state that feeding is permitted only at officially approved spots. Feeding in restricted zones such as near hospitals, schools, busy roads, and public gathering areas is strictly prohibited. In addition, feeders are responsible for maintaining cleanliness at the feeding site after every session.

Civic authorities clarified that every citizen has the right to feed community dogs at designated locations, and any attempt to stop or prevent feeding at these approved spots will be treated as a punishable offence under existing rules.
