Tired of waiting for civic action, residents of Panathur in Mahadevapura have crowdfunded ₹4 lakh to repair a key stretch near the railway underpass that had been ignored for years.
In yet another example of civic frustration boiling over, residents of Panathur in Bengaluru’s Mahadevapura constituency-highest tax paying constituency- have taken the repair of a major road into their own hands. After years of failed promises and inaction by authorities, locals raised ₹4 lakh through community crowdfunding to restore a 500-metre stretch of the railway parallel road near Panathur underpass, a lifeline for thousands of daily commuters.

The road, connecting key residential areas and witnessing nearly 15,000 vehicles every day, had long been in deplorable condition. Frequent flooding, potholes, and waterlogging during even light rains made commuting a nightmare. Repeated complaints to the BBMP and civic agencies yielded no results, pushing residents to act independently.
Around four to five apartment associations came together to pool funds and personally oversee the repair work. The locals now urge the city corporation to complete the remaining stretch and ensure proper drainage to prevent recurring damage.

Residents now question: if citizens must fund and fix their own roads, what purpose does their tax payment serve? Their action, though born of necessity, has reignited discussion over Bengaluru’s crumbling civic infrastructure and the growing trend of public-funded fixes.
