  • Karnataka govt issues gazette creating 368 wards under GBA
  • Bengaluru West tops with 111 wards; East smallest with 50 wards
  • Objections open till Oct 15 before final delimitation

The Karnataka government has notified a new ward delimitation for Greater Bengaluru, expanding the city into five corporations with 368 wards—almost double the earlier BBMP structure.

Bengaluru’s civic map is set for a major overhaul, with the Karnataka government issuing a gazette notification on the ward delimitation under the newly formed Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA). The city, which previously had 198 wards under the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), will now be reorganised into 368 wards spread across five separate corporations.

The move nearly doubles the ward count, aimed at decentralising governance and improving civic management. Among the five corporations, Bengaluru West will have the largest share with 111 wards, making it the biggest civic zone in the new structure. In contrast, Bengaluru East will have just 50 wards, making it the smallest. Bengaluru Central Corporation will have 63 wards, while both Bengaluru North and Bengaluru South will have 72 wards each.

Break-up of GBA wards:

•    Bengaluru Central Corporation – 63 wards
•    Bengaluru East Corporation – 50 wards
•    Bengaluru West Corporation – 111 wards
•    Bengaluru North Corporation – 72 wards
•    Bengaluru South Corporation – 72 wards

The government has also opened the draft notification for public scrutiny. Citizens and stakeholders have been invited to file objections or suggestions by October 15, 2025, 5:00 pm. Once reviewed, the final delimitation will be published, giving the GBA a fresh ward structure to operate under.

Officials have said the restructuring is aimed at streamlining governance in a rapidly growing metropolis of over 1.2 crore people. The near doubling of wards is expected to ease civic service delivery and ensure better representation for residents across the city.

The move has already triggered discussions among citizens, with many keen to see how the new delimitation will impact local elections and urban planning. As Bengaluru gears up for its new ward structure, the coming weeks will determine whether objections reshape the final contours of the GBA map.
