Jayangar RTO records the highest EV registrations in Bengaluru, while South Bengaluru emerges as the city’s rooftop solar hub, reflecting a strong shift towards clean mobility and renewable energy.

Bengaluru has emerged as one of India’s leading cities in electric vehicle (EV) adoption, with data showing strong momentum across multiple transport zones. As of the end of October, the Jayangar Regional Transport Office (RTO) topped EV registrations in the city, recording a total of 23,090 electric vehicles.

This included 15,505 two-wheelers, 1,754 four-wheelers, and 5,831 EVs from other categories, highlighting the dominance of electric two-wheelers in urban mobility. Other RTOs across Bengaluru also showed significant adoption, though with varying trends.

Rajajinagar RTO registered 11,652 EVs, comprising 10,456 two-wheelers, 787 four-wheelers, and 409 vehicles in other categories. Koramangala followed with 11,690 registrations, including 7,206 two-wheelers, 1,123 four-wheelers, and 3,361 others. Indiranagar recorded 10,585 EVs, of which 8,330 were two-wheelers, 1,387 four-wheelers, and 868 belonged to other segments.

Yeshwantpur logged 10,665 EV registrations, including 9,002 two-wheelers, 750 four-wheelers, and 913 others. KR Puram saw 8,976 EVs, with 5,785 two-wheelers, 933 four-wheelers, and 2,258 in other categories. Electronic City registered 5,954 EVs, largely driven by 5,430 two-wheelers, along with 459 four-wheelers and 65 others.

In peripheral zones, Devanahalli recorded 3,967 EVs, 3,290 two-wheelers, 499 four-wheelers, and 178 others. Yelahanka reported 3,365 registrations, while Anekal stood out with 7,059 EVs, notably including 5,044 four-wheelers. These figures indicate that central and southern Bengaluru continue to dominate EV adoption, while outer areas are gradually catching up.

Alongside electric mobility, South Bengaluru has also taken the lead in rooftop solar adoption. Data from the Karnataka Renewable Energy Association (KREA) shows that nearly 90% of households in the region have installed solar panels. According to BESCOM, South Bengaluru has 1,170 rooftop solar units with a combined installed capacity of 6.29 megawatts, making it the city’s top solar power generator.

Nationally, EV adoption continues to rise sharply. In 2025, Maharashtra led e-bike registrations with 1,95,969 units, followed by Karnataka at 1,41,283 and Tamil Nadu at 1,23,134. Uttar Pradesh recorded 92,174, Rajasthan 70,384, Kerala 70,107, Madhya Pradesh 66,275, Odisha 59,893, and Gujarat 54,379 registrations. This growth is being driven by incentives, tax benefits, and state schemes such as Karnataka’s Griha Jyoti programme, aligning with India’s goal to transition away from fuel-based vehicles by 2070
