BMRCL is studying a 16‑km double‑decker Metro corridor from KR Pura to Hoskote as an extension of the Purple Line. The feasibility study will assess traffic, costs and sustainability
The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) has initiated a feasibility study for a proposed 16-km double-decker Metro corridor connecting KR Pura to Hoskote. The project, if approved, will serve as an extension of the existing 43-km Purple Line running between Challaghatta and Whitefield (Kadugodi).
Delhi-based Introsoft Solutions Pvt Ltd, which is already preparing the Purple Line extension towards Hoskote, has been tasked with assessing the viability of a Metro-cum-double-decker structure along this route. The alignment under consideration is expected to include stations at KR Pura, ITI Bhavan, TC Palya Gate, Battarahalli Junction, Medahalli Junction, Avalahalli, Budigere Cross, Kattamanalur Gate flyover, Hoskote toll plaza, KEB Circle, and Government Hospital, Hoskote.
Officials explained that the initial plan was to extend connectivity from Whitefield, but the alignment was later revised to begin at KR Pura. A senior BMRCL official noted that areas such as Budigere Cross, Kattamanalur Gate flyover, and Hoskote toll plaza have witnessed rapid real estate growth, driven by projects like the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway, Satellite Ring Road, and the proposed Bengaluru Business Corridor.

The feasibility study will examine traffic demand, station placement, cost estimates, and sustainability factors. A geo-technical survey will follow as part of the detailed project report (DPR).
Currently, residents of Hoskote rely on Benniganahalli or Whitefield Metro stations for city connectivity. The Karnataka government has directed BMRCL to extend Metro services to the city’s outskirts, prompting multiple feasibility studies. Recently, BMRCL awarded Aarvee Engineering Consultants a contract worth Rs 1.2 crore to prepare the DPR for the Tumakuru Metro extension.
In total, BMRCL is studying nearly 200 km of new corridors, including extensions on the Green, Purple, Blue, and Orange Lines, as well as a new 68-km corridor linking Kalena Agrahara to Kadugodi Tree Park.
