Bengaluru North City Corporation has begun a detailed listing and shifting process for street dogs after the Supreme Court directed institutions, including schools, colleges, hospitals, factories, playgrounds and bus depots, to identify dogs present on their premises. As part of this exercise, 802 institutions have responded, and 1,042 street dogs have been listed for relocation to designated shelters.

The civic body has decided to document every street dog within its limits using the Worldwide Veterinary Service (WVS) app, which will serve as the official digital system for mapping dog locations. Officials have been instructed to use the app during sterilisation and vaccination drives to maintain accurate records.

North City currently operates two Animal Birth Control (ABC) centres. The Medi Agrahara facility houses 120 kennels, an isolation unit and a monitoring unit, while the Dasarahalli centre has 54 kennels and one monitoring unit. In the ongoing year alone, 2,925 street dogs have been sterilised, taking overall sterilisation coverage in the zone to 65%.
