Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar directs ward engineers to fine property owners of neglected vacant plots and recover cleanup costs through property tax.

Bengaluru North City Corporation Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar has issued strict instructions to ward-level engineers to penalise property owners whose vacant sites have become garbage dumping spots. During inspections across Pulakeshinagar, Byatarayanapura, and Sarvagnanagar Assembly constituencies, he found several unmaintained vacant plots contributing to blackspots in the city.

Kumar directed engineers to clear waste immediately from such locations and recover the cleaning costs through the property tax of the respective sites. He also emphasised that fines must be imposed on owners, especially in cases where sites remain neglected due to legal disputes or untraceable ownership.

To address residents’ concerns about poor sanitation, Kumar instructed officials to launch an intensive cleanliness drive, focusing on removing accumulated garbage and construction debris. During his visit, he resolved inter-division boundary issues that were hindering sanitation efforts and directed engineers to ensure door-to-door waste collection is conducted regularly and on time.

Meanwhile, officials from the Bengaluru East City Corporation conducted a special drive against garbage blackspots. Hundreds of pourakarmikas and engineers were deployed to clean drains, remove discarded household waste, and desilt stormwater channels. Over 60 tonnes of silt were cleared from KR Puram and Mahadevapura.
