After recent leopard sightings, villagers in Gummalapura near Anekal border are now facing a fresh wildlife scare as a lone wild elephant entered the village at midnight and moved freely through the streets.

Residents of Gummalapura village on the outskirts of Bengaluru, near the Anekal border, experienced a tense night after a lone wild elephant entered the village and roamed through the streets.

The incident reportedly took place around midnight, when the elephant walked into the village from nearby forest areas. Villagers said the animal was seen moving freely along the internal roads, creating panic among residents.

The presence of the elephant was first noticed when dogs in the village began barking loudly, which alerted people inside their homes. Curious and concerned residents stepped outside to check the situation, only to find a large lone elephant walking through the village roads.

The sudden appearance of the animal left villagers shocked and frightened, especially as many of them have already been facing frequent wildlife disturbances in the area.

Locals said that wildlife movement has been increasing in recent months, and the elephant’s visit has added to their fears. Earlier, the region had reported leopard movement, which had already caused concern among people living in forest-edge villages.

Villagers also recalled a previous tragic incident in Gummalapura, where a person lost his life in an elephant attack. Because of that incident, the sight of another elephant inside the village has raised serious safety concerns among the local community.

Several villagers managed to record videos of the elephant moving through the streets using their mobile phone cameras. The footage shows the animal calmly walking along the road while residents watch from a safe distance.

After spotting the elephant, villagers immediately alerted the Forest Department about the animal’s presence in the area. Authorities are expected to monitor the situation and take necessary steps to ensure that the elephant safely returns to the forest while preventing harm to residents.
