Many rent homes near IT hubs, but police note cases where foreign nationals overstayed without valid documents, creating legal and security risks. To prevent such issues, officials have introduced clear rental rules for landlords.

The advisory places special attention on Whitefield, one of Bengaluru’s busiest IT corridors. With its large international community, from software engineers to entrepreneurs, the area has seen a sharp increase in foreign tenants. Police say proper verification and documentation are critical here to maintain accountability.

The Seven Rules for Landlords

1.    Submit C-Form with FRRO/FRO when renting to foreign nationals.
2.    Verify passport and visa copies for validity.
3.    Inform local police before finalizing rental deals.
4.    No valid visa, no stay under any circumstances.
5.    Register all rental agreements legally.
6.    Be aware of legal action if tenant details are withheld.
7.    Report suspicious activities immediately to police.

Police clarify the move is not meant to harass foreign nationals but to ensure safety, transparency, and traceability. Bengaluru’s cosmopolitan identity will remain intact, but with stronger safeguards for both landlords and tenants.
