New crossing stations at Belandur Road and Huskur boost train movement, cut delays, and pave the way for more services between Bengaluru, Hosur, Coimbatore and Kerala.
Rail passengers travelling from Bengaluru towards Tamil Nadu can expect smoother and faster journeys, with South Western Railway (SWR) announcing the commissioning of two new crossing stations at Belandur Road and Huskur. The upgrades remove one of the biggest bottlenecks on the Byappanahalli-Hosur corridor, a slow-moving single-line stretch that has frustrated commuters for years.

The works form part of K-RIDE’s ₹498-crore double-line project between Byappanahalli and Hosur. Although the project began in June 2020, only 14 km of the 48-km line has been doubled so far. The newest addition is the 3.5 km Carmelaram-Belandur Road stretch, commissioned last week after inspection by the Commissioner of Railway Safety.
SWR officials say the changes have transformed train handling capacity. Belandur Road now has five tracks, and Huskur has four, enabling smoother crossings.
Previously, trains arriving from Byappanahalli had to run uninterrupted until Heelalige before crossing was possible. With the new stations, trains can be regulated earlier, significantly reducing wait times, particularly for freight trains heading to Hosur, Dharmapuri and Sivadi, which earlier caused congestion near KSR Bengaluru.

The long-neglected Belandur Road station has also been upgraded with a new entrance building, improved platforms, tactile pathways, and a lift to assist senior passengers. SWR says these changes will help trains, including high-priority services like Vande Bharat Express, which currently takes nearly 25 minutes to reach KSR Bengaluru from KR Pura due to congestion.
